British Horn Society

The British Horn Society (President: Barry Tuckwell A.C., O.B.E.) is the UK organisation dedicated to the art, craft and fun of Horn playing. The Society, which is run by horn players, publishes a special magazine, The Horn Player, organises festivals and other special horn playing and study events featuring the best international soloists, and administers a bursary fund to assist young horn players.

Horn Matters

Horn Matters is an online magazine and Open Educational Resource (OER) co-founded by John Ericson and Bruce Hembd. Bruce and John bring together a wide range of experiences, tips and stories to Horn Matters. The mission of Horn Matters is:

  • to encourage, inspire, inform, and challenge horn players, and

  • to promote the best musical instrument ever, the French horn.

The Orchestra: A User's Manual is a free resource and will remain so. It still receives between 8,000 and 16,000 unique visits per month from all over the world. See the testimonials. Thanks to all the donations, I have been able to create this responsive re-design. But the movies and sound clips recorded in 2004 do show their age. I would really like to re-record everything and add many more techniques, especially for solo and ensemble writing. I estimate this will cost around £30,000.
