Trombones: Slide Positions
There are seven basic slide positions on a trombone, beginning with Bb2 and descending chromatically to E2. Each slide position enables the player to produce the notes of the harmonic series:
Trombones with an additional F or D valve can access the harmonic series beginning on F and D below respectively, as shown in this chart by Jurgen Faisst.
